Description
Blotiella tisserantii (also called Tisserant's Blotiella, among many other common names) is a small, evergreen fern with a creeping rhizome. It is native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, and typically grows in moist, shaded habitats such as rainforests and riverbanks.
Uses & Benefits
Blotiella tisserantii is an ornamental plant used in landscaping and gardens. It is also used for erosion control and as a ground cover.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Blotiella tisserantii has small, yellowish-green flowers, and its seeds are small, dark brown and oval-shaped. The seedlings have a single, oval-shaped cotyledon and a pair of opposite, simple leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Blotiella tisserantii can be propagated by division of the rhizomes in spring or autumn. The rhizomes should be planted in a shady, moist area with well-drained soil. It is best to use a soil-based compost with added grit for drainage. The plants should be spaced about 15cm apart.
