Carex polystachya (also called Many-Spiked Sedge, among many other common names) is a perennial sedge of the Cyperaceae family. It is native to the northern temperate regions of Europe, Asia, and North America. This sedge typically grows in wet meadows, marshes, and along the edges of streams and ponds.

                        Cultivation and Propagation

Carex polystachya can be propagated by division in spring or autumn. The best time to divide is when the plant is dormant, as it will be less likely to suffer from transplant shock. The plant should be divided into smaller clumps, with each clump containing at least one growing point. The divisions should be replanted immediately, and the soil should be kept moist until the plants are established. Carex polystachya can also be propagated from seed, which should be sown in a cold frame in spring or autumn.
