Description
Carex maximowiczii (also called Maximowicz's sedge, among many other common names) is a perennial plant with long, narrow leaves and a yellow-brown flower spike. It is native to the Northern Hemisphere, including North America, Europe, and Asia. It is found in wet meadows, marshes, and along streams and lakes.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Carex maximowiczii has small, yellowish-green flowers and small, dark brown seeds. The seedlings are small and have a single leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Carex maximowiczii can be propagated by division or by seed. It is best grown in moist to wet soils in full sun to part shade. It is tolerant of a wide range of soils, but prefers moist, acidic, sandy or loamy soils. It is not tolerant of drought.
