Description
Carex arakanei (also called Arakane's Sedge, among many other common names) is a perennial sedge found in wet meadows, bogs, and wet woods. It is native to Japan. It has a slender, erect stem, and the leaves are long and narrow. The flowers are small and greenish-brown, and the fruits are small, dark brown nutlets.
Cultivation and Propagation
Carex arakanei can be propagated by division or by seed. Division is best done in the spring or fall. Seeds should be sown in the fall and will germinate in the spring. The plants prefer moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade.
