Description
Sphaeropteris quindiuensis (also called 'Quindío Sphaeropteris', among many other common names) is a large, terrestrial fern native to tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America. It has a long, creeping rhizome and large, ovate-lanceolate fronds with a distinct midrib. It typically grows in moist, shady areas, such as in the understory of forests.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Sphaeropteris quindiuensis is small, greenish-white in color and has a three-lobed calyx. The seed is small, round and black in color. The seedlings are small and delicate with a single leaf.
