Description
Cyathea polliculi (also called Polliculi Tree Fern, among many other common names) is a perennial tree fern native to South America. It has a trunk up to 2 m tall and a crown of fronds up to 3 m long. It grows in open grasslands and dry forests.
Uses & Benefits
Cyathea polliculi is used in traditional medicine to treat fever, headache, and stomach ailments, as well as for dyeing fabrics and making paper. It is also used to make herbal teas and tinctures.

The flowers of Cyathea polliculi are small, greenish-brown and inconspicuous. The seeds are small, black and glossy. The seedlings are small, with a single pair of cotyledons and a single pair of leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Cyathea polliculi is a terrestrial fern that can be propagated from spores or by division of the rhizomes. It prefers moist, well-drained soils in partial shade and can tolerate full sun. It is best grown in a sheltered spot with some protection from strong winds. It is hardy to USDA Zone 9.
