Description
Syrrhopodon mammillosus (also called Mammillose Spike-Moss, among many other common names) is a species of spike-moss found in the tropical regions of South America. It is a small, evergreen perennial plant with short, creeping stems and small, scale-like leaves. It is found in moist, shady habitats such as forests and woodlands.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Syrrhopodon mammillosus is small and yellow, with six petals. The seeds are small and brown, and the seedlings are thin and delicate.
Cultivation and Propagation
Syrrhopodon mammillosus can be propagated by division or by sowing spores. It prefers moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in partial shade. It is tolerant of a wide range of temperatures and can survive temperatures as low as -15°C (5°F). It is relatively drought tolerant once established.
