Bryum oamaruanum (also called 'Oamaru Bryum Moss', among many other common names) is a small, yellow-green moss with a soft, velvety texture. It is native to Europe, Asia, and North America, and is commonly found in moist, shady areas such as forest floors and riverbanks.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Bryum oamaruanum has small, yellowish-green flowers with a single pistil and a single stamen. Its seeds are small, round, and black. Its seedlings are small and have a single leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Bryum oamaruanum can be propagated by division, sowing seeds, or by spore propagation. It prefers moist, well-drained soils and is tolerant of a wide range of soils and pH levels. When growing from seed, it should be sown in a light, sandy soil and kept moist. When propagating by division, the plant should be divided in the spring or early summer. Spore propagation should be done in the fall or early winter.
