Description
Berberis pseudothunbergii (also called False Thunberg's Barberry, among many other common names) is a deciduous shrub native to China and Japan. It grows in open forests, thickets, and along streams, and reaches a height of 2–3 m. The leaves are alternate, obovate, and serrate, and the flowers are yellow. The fruit is a red berry.

Berberis pseudothunbergii has yellow flowers, small, black seeds and seedlings that are reddish-brown in color.
Cultivation and Propagation
Berberis pseudothunbergii can be propagated by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in spring or early summer in a cold frame. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out in the summer. Cuttings of half-ripe wood, 5 - 8cm with a heel, July/August in a frame. Overwinter in a cold frame and plant out in late spring after the last expected frosts.
