It is a small, yellow-green moss with a flattened, creeping stem and small, ovate-lanceolate leaves. It is native to North America, Europe, and Asia, and is found in wet, wooded habitats.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Philonotis lignicola has small, white flowers with five petals and yellow anthers. The seeds are small, black and round. The seedlings are small and have a single, oval-shaped leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Philonotis lignicola can be propagated from seed or vegetative cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a well-drained soil mix and kept moist until germination. Cuttings should be taken from healthy, mature plants and rooted in a moist, well-drained soil mix. Philonotis lignicola prefers a sunny location and should be protected from strong winds.
