Description
Impatiens janthina (also called Blue Jewelweed, among many other common names) is a species of flowering plant in the Balsaminaceae family. It is native to India, Nepal, and Bhutan. It is found in moist, shady places, such as forests, shrublands, and grasslands.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Impatiens janthina is white or pink with five petals and a yellow center. The seed is a small, brown, oval-shaped capsule. The seedlings are small and have oval-shaped leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Impatiens janthina can be propagated by seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a well-drained soil mix and kept moist. Cuttings should be taken from healthy plants and rooted in a moist soil mix. Both methods require bright, indirect light and temperatures of 18-21°C (65-70°F).
