Description
Asplenium carruthersii (also called Carruthers' Spleenwort, among many other common names) is an evergreen fern native to North America, Europe, and parts of Asia. It is a small fern, growing up to 0.3 m tall, with a rhizome that is usually short-creeping. Asplenium carruthersii is found in moist, shady habitats, such as woodlands, wetlands, and streambanks.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The Asplenium carruthersii flower is small, greenish-yellow, and inconspicuous. Its seeds are small, brown, and oval-shaped. The seedlings are small and delicate.
Cultivation and Propagation
Asplenium carruthersii is a hardy fern that is easy to grow and propagate. It prefers moist, well-drained soils in partial shade, and can tolerate full sun if the soil is kept moist. Propagation is best done by division of the rhizomes. The rhizomes should be divided in early spring and replanted in a new location.
