Description
Rohdea verruculosa (also called Rough-fruited Rohdea, among many other common names) is a species of shrub in the family Liliaceae. It is native to China, where it is found in the provinces of Anhui, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Zhejiang. It typically grows in moist forests and in rocky areas.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Rohdea verruculosa has small, yellow flowers with five petals and five sepals. The flowers are borne in clusters of up to 15. The seeds are small, black and round. The seedlings have oval-shaped leaves with a pointed tip.
Cultivation and Propagation
Rohdea verruculosa is a small evergreen tree or shrub that can reach up to 8m in height. It is native to Australia and New Zealand and is found in moist forests and along stream banks. It can be propagated from seed or cuttings. Seeds should be sown in a well-drained, sandy soil and kept moist. Cuttings should be taken from semi-hardwood and placed in a moist, well-drained medium. It prefers a sunny position and is drought tolerant once established.
