Description
Ophiopogon tsaii (also called Tsai's Lilyturf, among many other common names) is a perennial herb native to China. It has a woody stem, and grows up to 30 cm tall. Its leaves are simple, alternate, and lanceolate in shape, and its flowers are small, white, and fragrant. It is found in moist forests, meadows, and grasslands.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Ophiopogon tsaii has small white flowers with yellow centres. The seeds are small, black and round. The seedlings are small and have a single stem with small, oval-shaped leaves.
Cultivation and Propagation
Ophiopogon tsaii is best grown in partial shade, in moist but well-drained soil. It can be propagated by division of the clumps, or by seed. It is tolerant of a wide range of soils, and can be grown in containers.
