Description
Ophiopogon tienensis (also called Tien Mountain Lilyturf, among many other common names) is a perennial herb native to China. It has a woody stem, and grows up to 30 cm tall. Its leaves are simple, alternate, and lanceolate in shape, and its flowers are small, white, and fragrant. It is found in moist forests, meadows, and grasslands.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
Ophiopogon tienensis has white to pale pink flowers with a yellow throat. The seeds are small, black and round. The seedlings are small, dark green and oval-shaped.
Cultivation and Propagation
Ophiopogon tienensis is a perennial herb that can be grown from seed or cuttings. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. It can be propagated by division in the spring or by taking cuttings in the summer. To propagate by cuttings, take a cutting from a healthy plant and place it in a pot filled with moist soil. Keep the soil moist and place the pot in a bright, indirect light. The cutting should root in a few weeks.
