Description
Folioceros amboinensis (also called Amboinese Folioceros, among many other common names) is a species of liverwort in the Foliocerotaceae family. It is found in the tropics of the Americas, Africa, and Asia. It is a small, yellow-green, thallose liverwort that grows in moist, shady places.
Uses & Benefits
Folioceros amboinensis is used as an ornamental plant in gardens and as a source of food for livestock.
Flower, Seeds and Seedlings
The flower of Folioceros amboinensis is a small, yellow, cup-shaped structure. The seed is a small, brown, oval-shaped capsule. The seedlings are small, light green, and have a single, small, round leaf.
Cultivation and Propagation
Folioceros amboinensis is a small, evergreen, perennial liverwort that can be propagated by division or spore sowing. It prefers moist, shady conditions and can be grown in a pot or in a shady garden bed. When propagating by division, divide the plant into small pieces and replant in moist soil. When propagating by spore sowing, collect the spores and sow them on a moist, sterile medium. Keep the medium moist and in a shady area until the spores germinate and the new plants are established.
