Egg cuisine gets even more expensive in U.S. 2025

After reaching $4.15 a dozen in December 2024 or double 2022’s prices, eggs in the United States are still inflated. Experts now expect egg cuisine to follow suit in 2025, following bird flu-related shortage.

Although still shy of the record $4.82 per dozen of mid-2023, U.S.’ egg prices could soar by 20% this year.

For this reason, fast food joints cannot help but toe the economic line by overcharging egg-based dishes.

And for a reason, too, as restauranteurs report their wholesale purchasing costs as up by 40% from those of January 2024.

Egg Muffins Get Pricey

One breakfast casualty is the muffin containing eggs, especially the 2-dollar MacDonald’s McMuffin, now shuffling from $2.50 to $4.59.

According to a New York Post story of January 30, 2025, a McDonald in Connecticut apparently charged $7.25 for a McMuffin.

This caused an online outrage primarily because a similar promotional pair used to cost $2 back in 2016.

Official confirmation shows that an egg McMuffin ought to cost only two dollars but some venues continue overcharging.

At Times Square, NY, a breakfast McMuffin is at the moment leaving a hole in the pocket at $5.49 apiece. Hungry patrons however can still obtain a hush brown for $3.99 at the same venue.

Hold the Line

Some egg meals remain affordable nevertheless as some good restauranteurs have decided to offer customers same prices as before.

They are “holding the bottom line” by willing to absorb costs despite buying a dozen large eggs at a steep $6.

But could this holding on stay for long? For some egg-heavy restaurants where egg dishes represent 40% of the menu, pleasing customers might not hold unless prices reduce.

So, thanks to egg restrictions across state lines to prevent the spread of avian flu, derivative cuisine is facing mounting bills. The statistics below in their part illustrate the consumption side of things.
