SULPHONATED CASTOR OIL (TURKEY RED OIL)

Product description:

          Sulphonated Castor Oil, also known as Turkey Red Oil,is a versatile chemical product  derived from a non-edible vegetable oil viz.,Castor Oil (Botanical name: Ricinus   Communis).It is processed by the reaction of Castor Oil with sulphuric acid followed by neutralizing with sodium hydroxide.Castor oil is the glyceride of ricinoleic acid (which has a  hydroxyl group and a double bond in its molecule).

          Generally,sulphuric acid can react with both the hydroxyl group and the double bond, but under controlled conditions of temperature,the reaction may be predominantly restricted  to the sulphation (sulphonation) of hydroxy group.

 Applications:

                Sulphonated Castor Oil finds use in various applications like textile processing as a  Wetting Agent and Softener,as a Defoaming Agent in Distilleries,Paper Industries etc., as lubricant,as a coating agent in fertilizers (to allow slow absorption of fertilizers), as Cotton Spray Oil in cotton yarn spinning mills to overcome static current problems, in leather tanning industries as wetting agent and softening agent,in leather chemical  industries as a fat liquoring agent,in household disinfectant industries,in paint industries,as a currency note paper sizing agent,in the crude oil drilling industries, as an anodizing catalyst in electroplating industries etc.
