JBS promised to donate&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegazette.com\/agriculture\/in-this-brazilian-state-a-new-push-to-track-cattle-is-key-to-slowing-deforestation\/\"><u>2 million tags<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;over an unspecified time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nature Conservancy is helping the tag delivery effort in conjunction with the government and meat companies. With a single ear tag costing around&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegazette.com\/agriculture\/in-this-brazilian-state-a-new-push-to-track-cattle-is-key-to-slowing-deforestation\/\"><u>9 reals<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;($1.7), not many smallholder farmers can afford them. Hence, the government seeks to foot the bill for farmers with less than 100 head on their farms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the heart of tracking efforts is the northern Brazil state of Par\u00e1. The state has the second largest cattle herd in Brazil at<a href=\"https:\/\/cattledaily.com\/cattle-ranching-in-brazil\/\"><u>&nbsp;26 million head<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;after Mato Grosso. The reason it is under tracking pressure is because it sits on the environmentally sensitive Amazon forest where&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thebrazilbusiness.com\/article\/the-brazilian-cattle-industry\"><u>land is cheap<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How big is Brazil\u2019s cattle industry?<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cattle industry of Brazil can be assessed from production, export and consumption approaches.
