{"id":23857,"date":"2025-11-24T13:28:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T13:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/?p=23857"},"modified":"2025-11-24T13:33:00","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T13:33:00","slug":"industry-barometer-of-morocco-presents-resilient-agri-food-secto-in-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2025\/11\/24\/industry-barometer-of-morocco-presents-resilient-agri-food-secto-in-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Industry Barometer of Morocco presents resilient agri-food sector in 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Morocco presented the 2024 Industry Barometer October 30, 2025, revealing 0.8% agri-food sector\u2019s annual growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That the sector appreciated that much was significant because 2024 was economically challenging to the food industry in the Maghreb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The relatively new Barometer that began in 2022 is a key source of industrial performance data from official sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current edition shows a cumulative industrial revenue growth of<a href=\"https:\/\/medias24.com\/2025\/11\/10\/growth-investment-and-strategic-sectors-decoding-moroccos-industry-barometer-2024\/\"><u>&nbsp;9%&nbsp;<\/u><\/a>from 2023\u2019s, to 900 billion Moroccan dirhams ($96.84 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Out of this, agriculture and food contributed 190.9 billion dirhams ($20.54 billion), equal to 21.3% of the entire industrial turnover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agri-food ranked 5<sup>th\u00a0<\/sup>among industries in production terms, but still remains the second biggest industry by turnover value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, 11.1% of the national GDP comes from agriculture while around 21% of the national population works in the sector. Only the automotive sector, propelled by exports of spare parts to Europe had a bigger economic contribution in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gains remarkably happened despite drought, keynote&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2024\/12\/10\/sardines-in-morocco-cost-dear-as-stock-wav\"><u>sardine catch decline<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;on the Atlantic, and value chain constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-uptick-production-home-demand-investment\"><strong>Uptick Production, Home Demand &amp; Investment &nbsp;<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Facing such odds, production still managed to rise in value&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecofinagency.com\/news-agriculture\/2311-50740-morocco-s-agrifood-sector-shows-stable-growth-despite-tough-2024-conditions\"><u>by 2.2%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;annually, thanks to robust home demand and investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investments contributed 10 billion dirhams ($1.076 billion) out of the agricultural production value totaling 181.16 billion dirhams ($19.54 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Multinational investors particularly in sugar and dairy sectors using modern equipment upped the investment value by 8%, annually.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rising domestic consumption met uptick production halfway. Instant market demand countered the meager 2024 food export value representing only 21.6% of the agricultural turnover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As show of appreciation, the sector gave back to the population by providing 20.1% of all national job chances in 2024.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its 209,000 offerings out of&nbsp;1,038,133 jobs&nbsp;was third only to automotive and textile sectors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next Industrial Barometer of Morocco covering 2025 will take place on an unspecified date in 2026. It will surely be a hit given that this has been a relatively stable agricultural year. The following stats enlarge the barometer\u2019s data since its recent start, with 2022 as the base year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-morocco-agri-food-industry-barometer-statistics\"><strong>Morocco Agri-food Industry Barometer&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Statistics&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Morocco\u2019s National Industry Barometer with its 2025 tag \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/ouayouchyounes_morocco-industry-fdi-activity-7390745980306075648-ml40\"><u>execution, not slogans,<\/u><\/a>\u201d is an important statistical survey of industrial performance. The Ministry of Industry and Trade initiated with the 2022 edition, during which the agri-food sector provided\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atalayar.com\/en\/articulo\/economy-and-business\/moroccos-industrial-sector-smashes-revenue-record-with-E8015-billion-in-sales\/20240331090000198269.html\"><u>23.1%\u00a0<\/u><\/a>of the total industrial value (returns). In that edition it topped runner-up chemical\/para-chemicals (23%). For the 2024 edition on October 30, 2025, agri-food ranked second with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecofinagency.com\/news-agriculture\/2311-50740-morocco-s-agrifood-sector-shows-stable-growth-despite-tough-2024-conditions\"><u>21.3%<\/u><\/a>\u00a0value contribution. The report projected the sub-sector to hit a market value of $14.4 billion in 2028, at a cumulative period growth of 19.8%. This is slightly below the 2019-23 annual growth rate of 21.7%. The exponential appreciation owes to regular shopping trends:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodexport.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Morocco-Market-Assessment-2024.pdf\"><u>33%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of locals in the middle-upper class segments shop supermarket groceries one or more times weekly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How industrially important is the food sector in Morocco?<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Morocco\u2019s food sector (agri-food in short) is the source of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/northafricapost.com\/92475-moroccos-agri-food-sector-an-economic-cornerstone-a-driving-engine-for-exports.html\"><u>77%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of Morocco\u2019s food needs. In economic terms, it contributes 21% of all industrial employment, per the Ministry of Industry and Trade (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcinet.gov.ma\/en\/content\/agri-food\"><u>MCINET<\/u><\/a>). It also makes up an average 24% of the national industrial value added revenue and 23% of all industrial turnover. Foreign multinationals make up at least 25% of the food sector\u2019s annual revenue, per the MCINET.
