This trio constitutes 25% of the agricultural goods New Zealand exports stateside, per a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailytelegraph.co.nz\/news\/u-s-removes-extra-tariffs-on-key-nz-agricultural-exports\/\"><u>Daily Telegraph<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;report of November 16, 2025.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McClay said that the gesture will redeem the country some NZ$330 million ($187.4 million) in additional duty costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beef alone had between April and November 2025 counted expenses in the upward of NZ$300 million ($170.4 million).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Washington had first charged a 10% surtax on Kiwi goods in April before raising it to 15% in August, citing a slim trade imbalance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Auckland in turn applies an average 0.3% tariff on American imports, according to McClay.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-beef-no-longer-straitened\"><strong>Beef no Longer Straitened &nbsp;<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While it is still ascertaining the tariff removal, the country\u2019s Meat Industry Association (MIA) is anticipating that beef will benefit greatly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the MIA\u2019s chairman Nathan Guy, beef will recover a traditional tariff of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ruralnewsgroup.co.nz\/rural-news\/rural-general-news\/us-removes-reciprocal-tariffs-on-new-zealand-beef\"><u>&nbsp;below 1%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;under the World Trade Organization (WTO)\u2019s quota terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guy also opines that exports will rise after trade uncertainty ends concerning his country\u2019s biggest beef destination, the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tariffs there however straitened returns just after New Zealand had scored a worldwide beef export growth annually of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expanamarkets.com\/insights\/article\/new-zealands-beef-exports-grow-in-2025\/\"><u>1.3%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in Q1, 2025. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of these quarterly shipments totaling 134,240 tonnes, the U.S. had taken the lion\u2019s share of 46.2% or 62,017 tonnes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With tariffs gone, the Oceania country can advantage at a time when the United States is courting\u00a0<a href=\" www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2025\/06\/27\/ground-beef-price-in-the-united-states-beefs\"><u>costly<\/u><\/a>\u00a0beef due to a herd decline. And since grass-fed beef from NZ has quality guarantee, it enjoys an ample low-tariff quota stateside, per the stats below.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nz-united-states-beef-trade-statistics\"><strong>NZ-United States Beef Trade\u00a0Statistics\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Each October-September marketing year, New Zealand exports over 150,000 tonnes of beef to the United States, per the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/beeflambnz.com\/knowledge-hub\/PDF\/beef-exports-country-volume.pdf\"><u>Beef + Lamb NZ<\/u><\/a>.\u00a0The monthly export margin worldwide however slashed to 27,811 tonnes or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/beeflambnz.com\/knowledge-hub\/PDF\/beef-exports-country-volume.pdf\"><u>6% down\u00a0<\/u><\/a>in September 2025 on account of 15% U.S.\u2019 tariffs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the U.S.\u2019 quota for NZ beef?<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In normal trade years, New Zealand can export a beef\/veal quota totaling 213,402 tonnes surcharged 4.4 US\u00a2 per kg. This is according to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzmeatboard.org\/quotas\/us-beef-and-veal\"><u>NZ Meat Board<\/u><\/a>. Anything above that limit attracts a tariff of 26.4% depending on the reigning free-on-board value. Between April and November 2025, however, the U.S. slapped a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dailytelegraph.co.nz\/news\/u-s-removes-extra-tariffs-on-key-nz-agricultural-exports\/\"><u>10-15%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;additional tariff, which it removed mid-November.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New Zealand also accesses a low tariff export quota to the European Union (EU) at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzmeatboard.org\/quotas\/us-beef-and-veal\"><u>53,000 tonnes<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;for all bovine meat. EU-bound frozen beef for processing also attracts a low-tariff 63,703-tonne quota.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How much beef does NZ export worldwide?<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New Zealand has historically exported between 236,000 tonnes of beef (1990) at the lowest and 509,000 tonnes (2024) at the highest.
