{"id":23264,"date":"2025-09-22T09:52:49","date_gmt":"2025-09-22T09:52:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/?p=23264"},"modified":"2025-09-22T10:03:00","modified_gmt":"2025-09-22T10:03:00","slug":"soybean-rates-unwind-in-chicago-while-corn-clings-to-ethanol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2025\/09\/22\/soybean-rates-unwind-in-chicago-while-corn-clings-to-ethanol\/","title":{"rendered":"Soybean rates unwind in Chicago while corn clings to ethanol\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Soybean futures in Chicago lost to a 1 1\/2-month low on September 22, 2025 while corn&#8217;s rates rallied around ethanol demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At dawn trade, the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT)\u2019s top contract shed 0.1% from the earlier session to $10.24 1\/4 per bushel.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This lowest performance since August 12 aligns with prediction by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) of an ample harvest this fall.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Likewise, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40383929\/soybeans-at-six-week-low-on-lack-of-chinese-buying-wheat-eases\"><u>S&amp;P Global Commodity Insights<\/u><\/a>\u00a0on September 19 forecast a 2026 federal soy acreage expansion by 3.6% annually, to 84 million acres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current losses however directly owe to diplomatic tensions with China, which by the 22<sup>nd<\/sup>&nbsp;had not yet booked the fall crop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A telephone communique between Presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump the foregoing week had raised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/insights\/prices\/united-states-of-america\/soyabean-oil\/\">American<u>\u00a0soy product prices<\/u><\/a>\u00a0before reversal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But while commercial traders in Chicago court losses, shippers in the Gulf ports of south U.S. are doing better.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Hellenic Shipping News, CIF Gulf boats are offloading their soy loads at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hellenicshippingnews.com\/soy-basis-bids-flat-up-traders-eye-barge-freight-rates\/\"><u>3 cents above<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;those in Chicago.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-corn-boosted-by-ethanol\"><strong>Corn Boosted by Ethanol<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Corn in turn is surprisingly doing strong despite a September 12 prediction by the USDA of\u00a0<a href=\" www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2025\/09\/17\/largest-corn-acreage-in-92-years-promises-\"><u>record acreage<\/u><\/a>\u00a0at 98.7 million acres.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On September 19, corn for December delivery in Chicago stabilized at $4.20 a bushel, the highest since August 12.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Demand for the E15 ethanol mandate is the godsend for corn\u2019s stability as it is increasing purchases for energy conversion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Were it not for the ethanol intervention, analysts think the best rate for the grain would be a flat $4 a bushel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current corn and soybean rates therefore hinge on China\u2019s trade move and ethanol demand, respectively. The following statistics push this trade aspect further by examining production effect on price.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-statistics-on-production-effect-on-corn-and-soybean-rates-in-the-united-states\"><strong>Statistics on Production Effect on Corn and Soybean <strong>Rates<\/strong> in the United States<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A lot of trade factors regularly affect soy and corn rates in the U.S. One of the most important for soy is production largesse: the U.S., along with Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina together produce&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tradingeconomics.com\/commodity\/soybeans\"><u>80%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;and &nbsp;export 90% of worldwide soy volumes annually. Whenever production is higher or the world\u2019s biggest buyers reduce purchases, prices usually sink. For example in late September 2025, rates sank to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brecorder.com\/news\/40383929\/soybeans-at-six-week-low-on-lack-of-chinese-buying-wheat-eases\"><u>$10.25<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;a bushel. This was after the U.S. boosted its soy stocks to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/tradingeconomics.com\/commodity\/soybeans\"><u>1.02 billion bushels<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in June 2025 and China delayed crop bookings. By early September 2025, beginning 2025-26 stocks of feed grains including corn and sorghum were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nass.usda.gov\/Charts_and_Maps\/graphics\/data\/pricesb.txt\"><u>2.6 million tonnes more<\/u><\/a>\u00a0annually.
