{"id":23224,"date":"2025-09-16T10:07:13","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T10:07:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/?p=23224"},"modified":"2025-09-16T10:11:31","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T10:11:31","slug":"mcdonalds-usa-taps-multi-million-dollar-regenerative-beef-farming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2025\/09\/16\/mcdonalds-usa-taps-multi-million-dollar-regenerative-beef-farming\/","title":{"rendered":"McDonald\u2019s USA taps multi-million dollar regenerative beef farming\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Chicago-based McDonald\u2019s USA on September 15, 2025 announced a $200-million regenerative beef farming investment in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company will partner with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and other national agencies to promote sustainable ranching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funds will maintain watershed ecosystems, restore overgrazed pastures and modernize ranch infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the core of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.mcdonalds.com\/corpmcd\/our-stories\/article\/mcd-national-fish-wildlife-foundation-partnership.html\"><u>announcement<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;is a need to promote frequent movement in ranches to give grass time to recover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The $200 million will nurture 4 million acres of grassland across 38 states in the space of seven years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ranchers can access the fund through mediating organizations from which the NFWF will independently choose winners starting January 2026.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>McDonald\u2019s says that beef has been at the heart of its menu for the seven decades of operation, hence the investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cesar Pi\u00f1a, the brand\u2019s North American chief supply chain officer stated that McDonald\u2019s reaches \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/mcdonalds-chicago-americans-canada-europe-b2826992.html\"><u>more than 90% of Americans<\/u><\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The claim rivals a recent vow by the multinational\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\" www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2025\/08\/06\/aussie-red-meat-earns-supermarket-bias\"><u>Australia operation&nbsp;<\/u><\/a>to offer 100% Aussie beef despite the return of American imports there. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-foodservice-beef-sales\"><strong>Foodservice Beef Sales <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While the latest venture is about regeneration, it also whets an appetite to learn how foodservice affects&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/insights\/prices\/united-states-of-america\/beef\/\"><u>beef retail in the U.S.<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), retail sales contribute over 3\/4 of all beef consumption in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between 2004 and 2024, retailers expended 17.3 billion pounds out of a maximum 27.7 billion pounds of beef annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By 2023, American foodservice beef sales were worth $50 billion or nearly double 2020\u2019s $27.1 billion, per the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beefresearch.org\/Media\/BeefResearch\/Docs\/16_pager_final_2025.pdf\"><u>Beef Search<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Restaurants provide the bulk of beef distribution in the U.S.\u2019 foodservice at around 64% share, by mostly selling burger patties.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The above data therefore mirrors the claim by the Chicago burger giant that it serves 90% of Americans. Thus its regenerative beef farming investment highlights the following stats on the federal cattle sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-united-states-regenerative-cattle-farming-statistics\"><strong>United States Regenerative Cattle Farming&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Statistics&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S.\u2019 cattle numbers slumped to their lowest levels since 1951 in early 2024, to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beefcentral.com\/news\/us-cattle-inventory-hits-lowest-level-since-1951\/\"><u>87,200,000 head<\/u><\/a>. The slash in the head count was to do with a 2023-24 drought, spotlighting the need for regenerating ranches. The main idea is to keep herds moving regularly to promote grass regrowth, recover watersheds and protect the soil from erosion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023, the USDA\u2019s National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) spent millions in key ranching states for regenerative purposes. Idaho received&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/andthewest.stanford.edu\/2024\/to-restore-western-lands-regenerative-ranchers-keep-cattle-on-the-move\/\"><u>$3.7 million<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;while Montana $18 million. Corporates such as McDonald\u2019s in September 2025 entered the ring by promising&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/mcdonalds-chicago-americans-canada-europe-b2826992.html\"><u>$200 million<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;to regenerative cattle ranches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What portion of the U.S.\u2019 land is under regenerative agriculture?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wildhorizonbar.com\/blogs\/all\/what-percent-of-us-farms-and-ranches-are-regenerative\"><u>1.5%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of crop farms and ranches in the U.S. practise regenerative agriculture, as of 2025. &nbsp;However, 5% have organic certifications and 15% combine normal and regenerative patterns.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Is regenerative ranching profitable<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a whole, regenerative agriculture ups farm profits by up to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/worldmetrics.org\/regenerative-agriculture-statistics\/\"><u>25% over<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;conventional practices.
