{"id":23078,"date":"2025-08-22T13:47:31","date_gmt":"2025-08-22T13:47:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/?p=23078"},"modified":"2025-08-22T13:50:03","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T13:50:03","slug":"coffees-from-peru-refresh-nearly-half-the-world-in-a-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2025\/08\/22\/coffees-from-peru-refresh-nearly-half-the-world-in-a-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Coffees from Peru refresh nearly half the world in a year\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In 2024, Peru dispatched its conventional and organic coffees to 91 international markets, reports the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gestion.pe\/peru\/peru-potencia-global-en-cafe-convencional-y-organico-llega-a-mas-de-90-mercados-internacionales-noticia\/\"><u>Gestion<\/u><\/a>, 193,212 tonnes of Senasa-certified green coffee permeated over 60 world markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four traditional powerhouse destinations, namely the U.S., Germany, Belgium and Canada amassed 63.1% of all dispatches.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leading the production kill were four Andean provinces, whose volumes helped generated the sales momentum during a global supply gap.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cajamarca in the north shipped 32,796 tonnes or a 48.2% national share while the lakeside city of Jun\u00edn provided 15,148 tonnes (22.2%).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amazonas came third with 10,477 tonnes or a 15.4% portion while San Mart\u00edn, also in northern Peru, provided 5,567 tonnes (8.1%).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The four areas were instrumental for supplying 93% of the nationwide certified organic and conventional beans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Much of the gains owed to&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2024\/12\/06\/market-prices-of-coffee-rise-and-fall-\"><u>high Arabica rates<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;globally, which accelerated to $3.36 a pound in November 2024. Together with ample volumes, the handsome prices helped Peru earn $1.1 billion in raw coffee exports that year. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2025-s-developments\"><strong>2025\u2019s Developments<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While 2024 was a great year for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/insights\/prices\/peru\/coffee\/\"><u>Peru\u2019s export coffee prices&nbsp;<\/u><\/a>due to global shortages, 2025 is fine-tuning quantity and sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Volumes are gathering pace in the May-December 2025 national export window &#8211; and by August had hit 68,016 tonnes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding sustainability, the government on August 21 announced&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/agenciaorbita.org\/dia-del-cafe-peruano-produce-impulsa-la-innovacion-en-el-sector-cafetalero-con-mas-de-s-28-millones\/\"><u>28 million sol<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;($7.95 million) of non-refundable funds in farmer support.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Production leaders Cajamarca, San Mart\u00edn, Amazonas, Jun\u00edn and the capital Lima will earn the lion\u2019s share of the fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this allocation, the government expects to up the national coffee acreage above 2024\u2019s 427,000 hectares and boost export revenue. And as the statistics below show, Peru\u2019s various coffees have an affinity for quality-dependent returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-peru-conventional-and-organic-coffees-statistics\"><strong>Peru Conventional and Organic Coffees&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Statistics&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Peru is a top 15 largest conventional\/organic coffee exporter in the world at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/agenciaorbita.org\/dia-del-cafe-peruano-produce-impulsa-la-innovacion-en-el-sector-cafetalero-con-mas-de-s-28-millones\/\"><u>$1.1 bilion\u00a0<\/u><\/a>(2024), in mostly quality green beans. It is also the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.fas.usda.gov\/newgainapi\/api\/Report\/DownloadReportByFileName?fileName=Coffee%20Annual_Lima_Peru_PE2024-0008.pdf\"><u>no.1\u00a0<\/u><\/a>organic coffee exporter, according to the USDA\u2019s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), per the following highlights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Peru boasts&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/coffeeactually.com\/peru-coffee-report-production-up-though-organic-challenges-persist\/\"><u>90,000 hectares<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of certified organic coffee bean plantations, making it the world\u2019s biggest shipper of organic beans.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is not known exactly how much organic coffee constitutes Peru\u2019s exports, for the bulk is conventional.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Almost all coffee in production in Peru is Arabica,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.fas.usda.gov\/newgainapi\/api\/Report\/DownloadReportByFileName?fileName=Coffee%20Annual_Lima_Peru_PE2024-0008.pdf\"><u>70%&nbsp;<\/u><\/a>of which Typica, 20% Caturra and 10% other. &nbsp;<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In terms of consumption, Peruvians take only 1\/20<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;of what they export. The FAS\u2019 consumption forecast for the 2024-25 period was at 240,000 60-kg bags while exports stood at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.fas.usda.gov\/newgainapi\/api\/Report\/DownloadReportByFileName?fileName=Coffee%20Annual_Lima_Peru_PE2024-0008.pdf\"><u>4.07 million<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;60-kg bags. The country also imports around 90,000 60-kg bags of coffee per year, as of the 2022-23 period.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leading export destinations include the United States at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gestion.pe\/peru\/peru-potencia-global-en-cafe-convencional-y-organico-llega-a-mas-de-90-mercados-internacionales-noticia\/\"><u>25.8% share<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;(2024), Germany (13.5%, 2024) and Belgium (12.6%, 2024).<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2024, Peru dispatched its conventional and organic coffees to 91 international markets, reports the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa).
