According to the Kerala Kaumudi<\/u><\/a> on July 17, 2025, the shrimp-rich Chellanam harbor near the capital, Kochi, teems with fishers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a purse seine ban, costs of normal nets currently range between 15 and 30 rupees ($0.17-0.35) per kg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with the costs are wholesale shrimp prices at 180 rupees ($2.09)\/kg -although they could decline as supplies rally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fishers cite that in the past seven days, decent volumes of flower shrimp have been landing on their nets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shrimp is one of the seafood products, along with frozen prawns, that informs a May 2025\u00a0trade deal with the UK<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mackerel Supplies Tight<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

With\u00a0mackerel a different story is unfolding since the season started just a fortnight ago on empty markets.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite recovering supplies, pricing remains elevated because most initial landings in Kochi harbors ended up in factories for fish feed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps this is why vanjarama meen <\/em>or king mackerel was fetching 350 rupees ($4.07)\/kg by July 17, records the Golden Chennai.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expectation is high, however, since schools of the marine fish have recently followed monsoon tides \u201cin their tonnes<\/u><\/a>\u201d into Kochi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
