This was notably 18.4 mm below the 2020-25 average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From June 11, however, showers could persist in Ivory Coast and Ghana, both of which lead world cocoa supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-markets-dampened\"><strong>Markets Dampened<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>World markets are already getting a damp from the news because rains mean good production, which in turn lowers&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/insights\/prices\/ivory-coast\/cocoa-beans\/\"><u>prices<\/u><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New York\u2019s pricing futures at dawn June 11 continued a weeklong slide, losing by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.barchart.com\/story\/news\/32831170\/cocoa-prices-undercut-by-rain-in-west-africa\"><u>-0.24%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;day-on-day for July cocoa deliveries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After closing at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/markets.businessinsider.com\/commodities\/cocoa-price?op=1\"><u>$8,912 a tonne<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;on the 10<sup>th<\/sup>, &nbsp;the average contract price had reduced to $8,834.7 by the 11<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lower-mid-crop\"><strong>Lower Mid-Crop<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, there is price-related hope if shortage hits after the late onset of rains found an underdeveloped mid-crop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This in turn predicates lower production in 2025 at&nbsp;<a href=\" www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2024\/02\/07\/ivory-coast-downgrades-mid-crop-cocoa-har\"><u>400,000 tonnes<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;or -9% less, year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The middle crop is Ivory Coast\u2019s smaller of two yearly cocoa crops and it follows the main one of October through March.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Ghana, a December 2024 projection was not favorable, too, for it downsized 2024-25 production by-5% from an earlier estimate.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Could the current good rapport between cocoa and weather alter all the above projections in &nbsp;Ivory Coast? The statistics below attempt an answer by examining past mid-crop performances amid weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ivory-coast-s-mid-crop-cocoa-and-weather-statistics\"><strong>Ivory Coast\u2019s Mid-Crop Cocoa and Weather Statistics<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ivory Coast is the top cocoa producing nation, accounting for over 40% of global supplies any given year. Two seasons inform the sector\u2019s marketing year, the first from October to March and the lesser mid-crop from April 1 to September 30. Weather, however, was not friendly to the sector, beginning the early 2020s. Poor rains hit the 2023-24 cocoa crop (both main and mid-crop), forcing a &#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/cropgpt.ai\/ivory-coast-cocoa-production-overview\"><u>27.8%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;decrement in shipments, year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In March 2025, analysts forecast that the 2024-25 mid-crop output could reduce by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/commodities\/ivory-coasts-mid-crop-cocoa-output-expected-drop-around-40-due-long-drought-2025-03-18\/\"><u>40%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;due to late coming rains. Despite April through November being Ivory Coast\u2019s heavy rainfall season, sometimes saturation is sporadic, affecting yields. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How has the mid-crop&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>production&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>performed<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>historically<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On average, Ivory Coast used to boast over 2 million tonnes of cocoa per year,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.voanews.com\/a\/chocolate-industry-braces-as-ivory-coast-expects-dire-cocoa-crop\/7948916.html\"><u>500,000 tonnes<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of which mid-crop. In the 2023-24 season, the mid-crop amount slumped to 440,000 tonnes. In the 2024-25 marketing year, the country forecasts a harvest of 300,000 to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.barchart.com\/story\/news\/32831170\/cocoa-prices-undercut-by-rain-in-west-africa\"><u>400,000 tonnes.<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How ha<\/strong><strong>s the<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>cocoa&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>yield<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;rate&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>performed si<\/strong><strong>nc<\/strong><strong>e 2000?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the cocoa area in Ivory Coast expanded in the two decades ending 2020, the yield rate declined significantly, according to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cropgpt.ai\/ivory-coast-cocoa-production-overview\"><u>CropGPT<\/u><\/a>. In 2000, the productivity rate was as high as 0.7 tonnes a hectare (ha), but by 2022 it had bottomed out to 0.507 tonnes\/ha.
