{"id":22552,"date":"2025-06-02T09:56:16","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T09:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/?p=22552"},"modified":"2025-06-02T09:57:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T09:57:15","slug":"wheat-planting-in-argentina-underway-with-high-production-hopes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2025\/06\/02\/wheat-planting-in-argentina-underway-with-high-production-hopes\/","title":{"rendered":"Wheat planting in Argentina underway with high production hopes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Wheat farmers in Argentina started planting the 2025-26 crop end May 2025, with conducive weather pointing to a record harvest next January.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A May 29<a href=\"https:\/\/www.agriculture.com\/partners-argentina-wheat-planting-begins-at-a-good-pace-11745141\"><u>&nbsp;report<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;by the Buenos Aires Grains Exchange (BdeC) cites dry conditions in the northern and western wheat belts as sowing-friendly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BdeC projects sowing to cover 6.7 to 7.2 million hectares, which could nurture the second biggest crop ever, at 21 million tonnes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exchange recorded planting in the strategic north-central area of C\u00f3rdoba province as quicker than in the past five-year median.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As testament to the good pace, planting on 10.5% of the acreage was over before the late May report.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hopes of the next crop has prompted the government to extend a tax slash on wheat exports till March 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The measure aims to up \u201cthe profitability of producers\u201d by upping exports and streamlining&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/insights\/prices\/argentina\/wheat\/\"><u>prices<\/u><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ongoing-crop-harvests\"><strong>Ongoing Crop Harvests<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As winter wheat planting progresses, corn and oilseed harvests are wrapping up in eastern Argentina.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By May 29, the soy harvest in eastern provinces was 80.7% over, but was lagging at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ukragroconsult.com\/en\/news\/argentina-2025-26-wheat-crop-could-be-second-largest-on-record-soybeans-77-harvested\/\">61%<\/a>&nbsp; in Buenos Aires from high humidity. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Argentina leads in worldwide soymeal exports, hence the importance of a smooth soybean harvest.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Corn, on the other hand, was also dragging at 40.5% completion but its production could hit&nbsp;49 million tonnes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like soy and corn, there has also been some delay in wheat sowing in eastern zones due to foregoing heavy precipitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All in all, wheat planting in Argentina is generally stable and is going down the wire to producing a record crop. The statistics below extend the story by covering planting and acreage data.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-argentina-wheat-planting-statistics\"><strong>Argentina Wheat Planting Statistics&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Wheat cultivation in Argentina covered over 5 million hectares per year between 2019 and 2023. Production from this total area hit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fas.usda.gov\/data\/argentina-grain-and-feed-update-25\"><u>18 million tonnes<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in the 2024-25 year, per a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)\u2019s forecast. Planting takes place each southern winter at the end of May while the harvest occurs the following January.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Which provinces produce the most wheat in Argentina<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buenos Aires not only has the biggest national wheat area but produces&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ipad.fas.usda.gov\/cropexplorer\/cropview\/comm_chartview.aspx?ftypeid=47&amp;fattributeid=1&amp;fctypeid=47&amp;fcattributeid=1&amp;regionid=ssa&amp;cntryid=ARG&amp;cropid=0410000&amp;nationalgraph=False&amp;sel_year=2023&amp;startrow=1\"><u>50%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of the national wheat. It is followed by Santa Fe at 18% and C\u00f3rdoba at 13%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is Argentina\u2019s wheat acreage and yield in the 2019-25 period<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"#data\/QCL\"><u>FAOSTAT<\/u><\/a>\u2019s data, the wheat planting area averaged above 6 million hectares in the 2019-23 period, apart from 2023. The same case applies to the yields, which averaged over 2,500 kg\/ha, apart from 2023.
