{"id":22513,"date":"2025-05-21T13:20:57","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T13:20:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/?p=22513"},"modified":"2025-05-21T13:20:58","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T13:20:58","slug":"american-agricultural-export-prices-appreciate-annually-by-1-9-before-tariffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2025\/05\/21\/american-agricultural-export-prices-appreciate-annually-by-1-9-before-tariffs\/","title":{"rendered":"American agricultural export prices appreciate annually by 1.9% before tariffs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Export prices of American goods including agricultural increased by 2% between April 2024 and April 2025 before Trump&#8217;s tariffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/opub\/ted\/2025\/prices-for-u-s-exports-rose-2-0-percent-from-april-2024-to-april-2025.htm\"><u>U.S. Bureau of Statistics (BLS<\/u><\/a>) on May 20, 2025, while export rates gained, import prices declined by 0.1% year-on-year (y-o-y).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/insights\/prices\/united-states-of-america\/\"><u>Agricultural export prices<\/u><\/a>\u00a0gained\u00a01.9% y-o-y, the highest rise since the record 3.1% growth for the year ending February 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All outbound pricing for agri-food categories edged up by 0.5% month-on-month in April 2025, after a March decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leading the way in the yearly export rate growth were extra-agricultural goods such as fish and distilled beverages, by 9.1%. Despite showing high annual appreciation, this category recorded -0.1% monthly depreciation between March and April 2025.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Export rates for human food (e.g. crops and meat), feeds, and non-distilled drinks grew by 3.8%. On a monthly basis, this category improved its export pricing by 0.6% from March 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While agricultural industrial material export prices declined by a massive&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/archives\/ximpim_05162025.htm\"><u>-9.3%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;y-o-y, their non-agricultural counterparts gained 2.4%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Driving this generally good performance were fruit and nut selling rates, which overcame lackluster soybeans.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bilateral-export-overview\"><strong>Bilateral Export Overview<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On a country basis, U.S.\u2019 exports to China, including non-agricultural, gained 0.7% in the year ending April 2025 just before tariffs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All import prices into the U.S. from China shed 0.1% in April 2025 month-on-month, courtesy low production costs at origin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, U.S.\u2019 export prices to Canada&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2025\/02\/06\/tariff-ensemble-comes-for-canada-mexico-china\/\"><u>before tariffs<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;upped by 1.1% y-o-y while import rates dipped by -0.1%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The American all-commodity export prices to Mexico also rose by 0.1% while the import equivalents declined by -0.3%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now the question remains as to whether this price growth will sustain from May 2025 onward, after tariffs. Between 2019 and 2022, the agricultural export value grew annually from a 2019 base of $141.082 billion.
