{"id":22315,"date":"2025-04-24T09:49:07","date_gmt":"2025-04-24T09:49:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/?p=22315"},"modified":"2025-04-24T09:50:33","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T09:50:33","slug":"arabica-coffee-price-advances-from-strong-brazils-real","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2025\/04\/24\/arabica-coffee-price-advances-from-strong-brazils-real\/","title":{"rendered":"Arabica coffee price advances on strong Brazil\u2019s real"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Arabica coffee futures in New York on early April 23, 2025 rose to a \u00a02 1\/2-week high adrift a strengthening Brazil\u2019s currency.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasdaq.com\/articles\/arabica-coffee-posts-moderate-gains-brazilian-real-rallies\"><u>Nasdaq<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;reports that Arabica beans for May and July deliveries notched 2.96% and 3.22% respectively on the 23<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;in daily advances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Robusta at the International Coffee Exchange (ICE) futures benchmark retreated because it does not depend on Brazil\u2019s currency.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whenever the&nbsp;<em>real<\/em>&nbsp;gains against the dollar, exporters of Arabica in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/insights\/prices\/brazil\/coffee\/\"><u>Brazil<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;hold back to avoid low local cash conversions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This reprises the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2024\/07\/08\/arabica-coffee-prices-recover-after-brazil-harvest-affiliated-dip\/\"><u>harvest time scenario in July 2024&nbsp;<\/u><\/a>when the&nbsp;<em>real&nbsp;<\/em>had<em>&nbsp;<\/em>strengthened and rescued the time\u2019s rock bottom prices. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-enter-production-dip\"><strong>Enter Production Dip<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>But currencies are not the only factors buoying Arabica prices, for a recent production dip prediction is weighing in, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On April 22, 2025, Racobank estimated Brazil\u2019s 2025-26 Arabica crop at 38.1 million bags, down&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/money\/economy\/arabica-coffee-soars-on-brazilian-real-strength-and-brazil-crop-concerns\/ar-AA1DtysB?ocid=BingNewsVerp\"><u>-13.6%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;year-on-year (y-o-y).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Racobank also helped pressure Robusta prices after forecasting the 2025-26 domestic Robusta crop at 24.7 million bags, 7.3% up y-o-y.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysts think this cheaper coffee variety\u2019s production gains might not impact much the current rally in Arabica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, by the 24<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;at 05:50 AM EST, Arabica futures were still up by 1.39% day-on-day, to<a href=\"https:\/\/markets.businessinsider.com\/commodities\/coffee-price\"><u>&nbsp;$3.86<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;a pound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gain however is below the year\u2019s current high of $4 a pound, recorded in early February 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, a smaller upcoming harvest in Brazil in combination with a strong&nbsp;<em>real<\/em>&nbsp;is making Arabica bullish. For more on how this popular coffee variety has performed in similar situations in the past week, skim the statistics below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-statistics-on-arabica-coffee-amid-strong-brazil-currency\"><strong>Statistics on Arabica Coffee Amid Strong Brazil Currency&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While a weak\u00a0<em>real<\/em>\u00a0orientates coffee prices downward, a strong currency on the other hand pushes the rates up. This increase is usually due to artificial shortage that reluctant exporters occasion when the local currency is strong. \u00a0Of course other factors, such as production in other countries, also affect coffee prices. \u00a0The focus below however is solely on the Brazil\u2019s\u00a0<em>real\u00a0<\/em>effect on prices from April 17 to 24, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>April 17:<\/em>&nbsp;with the exchange rate at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/usd-brl-historical-data\"><u>5.8063<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;against 1 dollar, the&nbsp;<em>real<\/em>&nbsp;was stronger than the previous day&#8217;s 5.86. This helped buoy Arabica prices to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/procurementtactics.com\/arabica-prices\/\"><u>$3.763<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;a pound on the 17<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Apr 18:<\/em>\u00a0Arabica prices gained slightly to $3.768 a pound, even as the currency stayed put at 5.8063 against the dollar.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Apr 21<\/em>: the exchange rate slightly weakened to 5.8067 against the dollar, pushing down the price to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/procurementtactics.com\/arabica-prices\/\"><u>$3.669<\/u><\/a>\u00a0a pound.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>April 22<\/em>: the currency strengthened to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.investing.com\/currencies\/usd-brl-historical-data\"><u>5.7250<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;against the dollar on the 22<sup>nd<\/sup>, rallying Arabica futures to $3.792 a pound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>April 24<\/em>: at the current rate of 5.70 against the dollar on the 24<sup>th<\/sup>, the&nbsp;<em>real<\/em>&nbsp;has strengthened by 9 cents.
