Wholesale\u00a0egg prices<\/u><\/a>\u00a0in American cities were down to $4.15 a dozen from March 14, 2025 onward as demand weakened and supply rallied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Falling bird flu cases have revamped supplies, enabled wholesalers to sharply cut prices<\/u><\/a> and helped grocers to stock up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, low demand in retail markets continues because retailers are yet to pass their pricey old stock to price-resistant consumers.  Until that occurs, demand on the consumer side will stay down and retail rates could remain elevated for a time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three-week Bulk Market Price Downturn<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, loose graded bulk eggs continue a weekly slide by between $0.85 minimum and $2.70 maximum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regular bulk eggs have been shedding $2.70 per 12 pieces<\/u><\/a> each week of March till the 14th<\/sup>, to $4.78 per dozen. This is notably half of February 2025\u2019s wholesale maximum of $8.05 per dozen and above their first substantial rise in December 2024<\/u><\/a> to $4.15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While prices of regular white eggs are decreasing fast, those of large eggs are under less pressure. Their weekly price reduction rate by March 14 was at between $0.85 and $0.97 in the Midwest and California, respectively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New York was by mid-March the biggest price loser, with large shell eggs in cartons down to $4.78 a dozen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

California on the other hand saw the slightest drop nationally, with large loose graded eggs down to $9.48 a dozen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, it looks like Americans could pay less for eggs than in February 2025 when rates had spiked 159%<\/u><\/a>, year-on-year. Furthermore, Easter could revamp demand, help grocers break even on old stock, and finally bring wholesale and retail prices at par. Statistics on Wholesale Egg Prices in American Cities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0Federal Reserve Bank<\/u><\/a>\u00a0shows that a wholesale egg dozen in the U.S. cost decimal point dollar units in the 1980s. Now the same dozen verges at over the 5-dollar rate in the mid-2020s. From $0.774 per dozen in January 1980, large 12 eggs eventually peaked at an average $5.897 in February 2025.
