This according to the government\u2019s 2016 figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fiber is so common in the country that it has gained the international nickname of \u201cManila hemp\u201d for distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its part, bamboo nurtures Philippine communities courtesy of its economic uses such as in construction. Besides, it is a carbon sink that helps trap excess emissions in forestland across the southeast Asia island peninsula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mango, too, is vital for not only sustainable needs but for the agri-food economy of the nation. The country accounts for 3.5% of the global harvest of the fruit and doubles as Asia\u2019s biggest supplier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seaweed is also economically important, given that in Quarter 2, 2023, it represented 33.8% the national&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2023\/11\/01\/da-philippines-plans-to-refine-seaweed-into-cheaper-livestock-feed\/\"><u>seafood production.<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its production across 60,000 hectares along the country\u2019s coastlines is also experiencing an industrial boost. This includes the set up of processing plants that produce fertilizers, livestock feed and cosmetics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-financing-the-four-resources\"><strong>Financing the Four Resources &nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from realizing the above milestones, the country also seeks to transform the currently unstable supply chains through funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government has already set aside some 167.5 billion pesos ($2.9 billion) to help farmers and improve farm infrastructure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Laurel, this stimulus only reinforces the food security and sustainable model of mango, weeds, abaca and bamboo cultivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FAO\u2019s support for the foods also counts in, for the UN agency has already injected $41 million in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-ph\/news\/other\/da-fao-collaborate-to-strengthen-food-security\/ar-AA1syKD6?ocid=BingNewsSerp\"><u>19 agricultural projects<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a word, tropical produce and sustainability are crossing paths in the Philippines in a way that could impact global sustainability. Some have become commonplace, such as bamboo, whose wood makes&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fprdi.dost.gov.ph\/program-projects\/forest-products-research-and-development\/bamboo-processing-and-industry-development\"><u>25%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of public school furniture per a governmental 2010 directive. Regarding seaweed, the country boasts over&nbsp;<a href=\"#:~:text=The%20Brief%20Description%20of%20World\u2019s%20Largest%20Country%20Producers,of%20Seaweed%20in%20the%20world%20of%202015.%20\"><u>800 species<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;at sea and in aquaculture, which support 0.5 million people in southern Philippines. For more on abaca and mango, read on the following sections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How much abaca does the Philippines produce<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Government figures show that in 2016, abaca production was at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.da.gov.ph\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Philippine-Abaca-Industry-Roadmap-2018-2022.pdf\"><u>72,000 tonnes<\/u><\/a>, from some 180,302 hectares. &nbsp;This output would &nbsp;reduce six years later in 2022 to&nbsp;<a href=\"#data\/QCL\"><u>68,326.56 tonnes<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;while acreage would retract to 146,488 hectares, according to FAOSTAT. Besides, the above two figures represent the highest production in Asia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the total mango, guava and mangosteen production in PH<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The combined production of mango, guava and mangosteen in the Philippines was at\u00a0<a href=\"#data\/QCL\"><u>723,096 tonnes\u00a0<\/u><\/a>in 2022, per FAOSTAT. In 2013, the country ranked\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldatlas.com\/articles\/the-top-mango-producing-countries-in-the-world.html\"><u>11<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0<\/u><\/a>worldwide for mango alone, behind world leader India.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are the main facts about PH\u2019s bamboo sector<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are over 70 bamboo species in the Philippines, which helps it rank among the top producers in Asia. &nbsp;In terms of exports, the country is among the top 50 world exporters.
