On September 9, 2024, these markets were selling ginger at between&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oneindia.com\/ginger-price-in-india.html\"><u>130 and 210 rupees&nbsp;<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;($1.55 and 2.50) a kg across India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considering the above fluctuating market rates, the flexible Arunachal Pradesh ginger deal will bring farmers an estimated 300 million rupees ($3.57 million).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence, APAMB\u2019s Chief Executive Okit Palling called the deal among the biggest in the state\u2019s agricultural annals for a \u201csingle product.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, agricultural officials urged farmers and the export company to each ensure perpetuity of supplies and reasonable price, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While overseeing the Memorandum of Understanding, India\u2019s Agriculture Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu praised the state\u2019s native ginger species. He added that the agreement will perpetuate this superior-tasting type and discourage the growing of other species.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With its signature spice, the state is among the key producers of the aromatic vegetable in India. Its output here, for instance, reached&nbsp;<a href=\"#:~:text=35%2C276%20tonnes%20Annual%20production%20of%20ginger%20in%20Arunachal,ginger%2C%20produced%20in%20India.%20Cultivated%20over%205%2C109%20hectares.\"><u>35,276 tonnes&nbsp;<\/u><\/a>in the 2020-21 season.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The northeast India region as a whole consists of national ginger powerhouses such as Manipur, Nagaland and Assam.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, the export deal insures many farmers with consistent export connections without relying on unpredictable mandi rates. There are also local markets for surplus since ginger is always in demand in India,&nbsp;as the following statistics illustrate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-india-and-arunachal-pradesh-ginger-statistics\"><strong>India and Arunachal Pradesh Ginger Statistics&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>India is not only the world\u2019s leading producer of ginger but its consumer, too, at&nbsp;<a href=\"#:~:text=India%20%281.9M%20tons%29%20remains%20the%20largest%20ginger-consuming%20country,by%20the%20second-largest%20consumer%2C%20Nigeria%20%28762K%20tons%29%2C%20threefold.\"><u>43%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of the global output. In production, the country reaped<a href=\"#data\/QCL\"><u>&nbsp;2,225,000 tonnes<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of ginger from some 205,000 hectares in 2021, according to FAOSTAT. The national yield rate was&nbsp;<a href=\"#:~:text=35%2C276%20tonnes%20Annual%20production%20of%20ginger%20in%20Arunachal,ginger%2C%20produced%20in%20India.%20Cultivated%20over%205%2C109%20hectares.\"><u>10,723 kg a per hectare<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in this period. &nbsp;In 2022, however, both production and acreage would retract to 2,219,000 tonnes and 193,000 hectares, respectively. &nbsp;Despite the numerical dip, the country would still retain its number 1 global production status. Arunachal Pradesh, in its part, contributes the 12<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;highest ginger output in India but its variety is distinctly pungent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How high is ginger consumption in India<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>India leads worldwide consumption at&nbsp;<a href=\"#:~:text=India%20%281.9M%20tons%29%20remains%20the%20largest%20ginger-consuming%20country,by%20the%20second-largest%20consumer%2C%20Nigeria%20%28762K%20tons%29%2C%20threefold.\"><u>1.43 million tonnes<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of the spice per year, as of 2020, according to Indexbox. &nbsp;This represented 43% of the global consumption total or thrice that of runner-up, Nigeria, at 762,000 tonnes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the export rank of India for ginger exports<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because India consumes most of its ginger, it is not the top exporter. Indeed, it was only 4<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;in 2022 with an export value of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/oec.world\/en\/profile\/hs\/ginger\"><u>$70.7 million<\/u><\/a>, according to OEC.
