These, especially modern rail networks, convey the bulk of the continent\u2019s fresh produce to long distance markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is such links that leaders from Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia and Kenya cited at the forum as important for agricultural trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For one, President Samia S. Hassan of Tanzania called for the expansion of the trailblazing rail connections with Zambia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reports already show that even before the China-Africa summit, Zambia was to receive $1 billion in transport financing from China. &nbsp;According to President Hakainde Hichilema on the summit\u2019s sidelines,&nbsp;the country is also concluding a private&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zawya.com\/en\/world\/africa\/chinas-xi-promises-50bn-for-africa-over-next-three-years-fzra1nt8\"><u>solar energy<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;deal with China.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its part, Zimbabwe has got backing by Beijing at the summit specifically in agriculture and eco-friendly transport infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Kenya\u2019s President, William Ruto, recounted the expansion of the country\u2019s China-built expressway from Nairobi to the coast.&nbsp;East Africa\u2019s biggest economy has seen many mega rail projects via firms from China, beginning the early 2000s.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ruto also reiterated that Xi has given his word to increase the volume of Kenya\u2019s agricultural merchandise in China.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In August 2022, Beijing gave a nod to the export of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/produce\/fruits-and-vegetables\/mtkenyaavocadofarms\/\"><u>avocados from Kenya<\/u><\/a>, a move that farmers celebrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China is currently endeavoring to help African nations modernize their farming systems through technology and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/equipment-and-machinery\/tractors\/\"><u>agricultural machinery<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the mechanization aspect, Africa\u2019s agriculture could achieve industrialization through the input of tractors and harvesters.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it is technology where Sino-African relations hold the greatest promise, including e-commerce sites to deliver farmers direct pricing. The use of<a href=\"https:\/\/en.dahe.cn\/2024\/09-04\/1812195.html\"><u>&nbsp;satellite crop monitoring<\/u><\/a>, precision farming and GPS sensors can also boost crop productivity and eradicate pests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, the September 2024 China-Africa Forum shows that agriculture in Africa could industrialize through funding. Regarding land, Africa had the third highest regional agricultural land area at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/sustainability\/news\/detail\/en\/c\/1274219\/\"><u>1.1 global hectares<\/u><\/a>\u00a0(gha)\u00a0in the decade between 2007 and 2016. This represented 24% of the worldwide agricultural land, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Only the continents of Asia at 1.1 gha (34%) and the two Americas at 1.2 Gha (25%) had more farmland. Interestingly, Sudan had the most agricultural land in Africa up to 2017 but not the most cropland, which went to Nigeria.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Which country in Africa grows the most crops<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FAO data for the period between 2007 and 2016 shows that China led world cropland area at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/sustainability\/news\/detail\/en\/c\/1274219\/\"><u>500 million hectares<\/u><\/a>. Nigeria was the only African nation in the top 10 by cropland area, at number 9. By 2021, Nigeria\u2019s cropland had reached&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/nigeria\/fao-in-nigeria\/nigeria-at-a-glance\/en\/\"><u>70.8 million hectares<\/u><\/a>, serving as a basis of the country\u2019s economical growth. For instance, in the first three months of 2021, agriculture contributed 22.35% to the national GDP. LIke in cropland, Nigeria also leads Africa in sorghum production, with a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/openknowledge.fao.org\/server\/api\/core\/bitstreams\/58971ed8-c831-4ee6-ab0a-e47ea66a7e6a\/content\"><u>30% global production share<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;per annum.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How does Africa fare in global animal product output<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though Africa boasts a robust animal herd, its meat production represents just&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resakss.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2022_ator_individual_chapters\/Chapter%204_ReSAKSS_AW_ATOR_2022.pdf\"><u>6%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of the global output, as of 2020. &nbsp;However, production grew double in two decades, from 11.59 million tonnes in 2000 to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resakss.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2022_ator_individual_chapters\/Chapter%204_ReSAKSS_AW_ATOR_2022.pdf\"><u>19.88 million tonnes<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in 2021. Poultry meat is Africa\u2019s biggest meat source and accounted for almost a third of all meat at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.resakss.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2022_ator_individual_chapters\/Chapter%204_ReSAKSS_AW_ATOR_2022.pdf\"><u>6.8 million tonnes<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;in 2020.&nbsp;In hen\u2019s egg category, Africa provided&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/openknowledge.fao.org\/server\/api\/core\/bitstreams\/58971ed8-c831-4ee6-ab0a-e47ea66a7e6a\/content\"><u>4%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of the global total, a far cry from Asia\u2019s 62.1% lead share.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Which country produces the most maize in Africa<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though maize is a staple diet in Africa, the continent\u2019s output trails that of leaders India, Brazil, the U.S., Russia and China. &nbsp;South Africa led continental production in 2022 at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/agricultural-production\"><u>16.14 million tonnes<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;while Nigeria came second at 12.95 million tonnes.
