This according to a 2023 survey by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commission\u2019s choice to increase the legal catch size borrows from its rule for re-sizing if the lobster count falls by 35%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-lobstermen-concerned\"><strong>Lobstermen Concerned<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In its part, the lobster industry felt in as far back as 2023 that the above figures by the commission were incorrect. However, in the American lobster species category, Maine leads other states as Alaska mainly fishes spotted lobster species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How big are lobster exports by the United States<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, the U.S. exported 864,660 tonnes of prepared\/preserved lobster worth&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wits.worldbank.org\/trade\/comtrade\/en\/country\/ALL\/year\/2018\/tradeflow\/Exports\/partner\/WLD\/product\/160530\"><u>$11.298 million<\/u><\/a>, the second biggest worldwide after Canada\u2019s. The U.S. lost its second place in 2022 to the United Arab Emirates for prepared or preserved lobster exports worth&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/oec.world\/en\/profile\/hs\/lobster-prepared-or-preserved\"><u>$9.71 million<\/u><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Is the U.S. a&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>major<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;lobster importer<\/strong>?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The United States imported\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/oec.world\/en\/profile\/hs\/lobster-prepared-or-preserved\"><u>$342 million\u00a0<\/u><\/a>worth of prepared or preserved lobster in 2022 and ranked first in such imports worldwide.
