Then there was a slight rally&nbsp;of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasdaq.com\/market-activity\/commodities\/zs\"><u>0.87%<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;on May 10, before today\u2019s early fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strong U.S.\u2019 soy supplies and the floods in Brazil are both having&nbsp;a tug-and-pull effect on the price. While Brazil\u2019s harvest delay is marginally rallying the price, strong supply in the U.S. is exerting a downward pull.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-u-s-supply-factor\"><strong>U.S. Supply Factor<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) projects a huge 2024-25 American soy harvest and with it a farm price slip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The May 10 forecast echoes the January 2024 crop report which showed improvements in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2024\/01\/15\/usda-grain-boon-shocker-sinks-corn-soybean-prices\/\"><u>grain acreage<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;and thereby cooled prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>USDA\u2019s soy supply glut projections for 2024 include carryover stocks from 2023. The U.S. exported $27.94 billion of soybeans in 2023, below the three-year average of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fas.usda.gov\/data\/commodities\/soybeans\"><u>$29.91 billion<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;amid South American competition. This means the 2023 surplus will go into the 2024 inventory and hence put pressure on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/kornradio.com\/ag-news\/soybeans-corn-wheat-see-solid-post-usda-report-gains\/\"><u>farm gate price<\/u><\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-brazil-s-flood-weighs-in-on-soybean-prices\"><strong>Brazil\u2019s Flood Weighs in on Soybean Prices<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In Brazil, torrential rains in the major soy-producing state of Rio Grande do Sul also factored in, albeit marginally.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>76% of the soy harvest in the southern Brazil state&nbsp;was already over&nbsp;when floods submerged farms in mid-April.&nbsp;Northern states had already reaped 90% of their crop while the southern areas had averaged 60% when floods checked progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Analysts now predict Rio Grande do Sul may realize<a href=\"https:\/\/whbl.com\/2024\/05\/03\/brazil-soy-output-at-top-farm-state-may-drop-15-amid-torrential-rains\/\"><u>&nbsp;19 million tonnes&nbsp;<\/u><\/a>out of a capacity for 22.25 million tonnes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>USDA had predicted that Brazil would harvest a record soy crop in the 2023\/24 season worth<a href=\"https:\/\/fas.usda.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2024-05\/production.pdf\"><u>&nbsp;163 million metric tonnes<\/u><\/a>. This would have been 8 million tonnes more than that of the 2022-23 season of 155 million tonnes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Were it not for the high production in the U.S., the Brazilian floods could have rallied the soy price.
