There have been 8 fatalities as of December 8, even as food safety lawyers initiate an anti-trust lawsuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reported&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/cantaloupe-precut-salmonella-recall-ffcac001535361421a74c0d5c80ebc38\"><u>&nbsp;230 infections&nbsp;<\/u><\/a>in the U.S. by December 8, 96 of whom in hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/insights\/prices\/canada\/\"><u>Canada<\/u><\/a>\u00a0also imported the tainted cantaloupe from \u201cTrufresh,\u201d a result of which were 129 cases and 44 hospitalizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The salmonella strain that has affected cut cantaloupe is&nbsp;<em>S. Sundsvall,&nbsp;<\/em>which spreads fast through food poisoning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-did-it-begin\"><strong>How Did it Begin?<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From November 1 onward, people in various U.S. states and Canada &nbsp;started complaining of illnesses after eating cantaloupes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the interim, CDC\u2019s investigations revealed that 78 of the 105 cases it examined had direct links with cantaloupe consumption.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On November 30, \u00a0the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that Cut Fruit Express had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/money\/food\/2023\/12\/08\/cantaloupe-recall-salmonella-outbreak-deaths\/71849419007\/\"><u>recalled mixed cantaloupe chunks.<\/u><\/a>. On December, TGD Cuts LLC also recalled its fruit cups which had \u201cTrufresh\u201d cantaloupes among their ingredients.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Canada, 6 provinces out of the total 10 have steadily reported infections, beginning November 1. The alarming trend initiated cantaloupe recalls by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in early November.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Canadian authorities attributed the salmonella outbreak to Malichita and Rudy brands of cantaloupe by \u201cTrufresh.\u201dOn November 22, the company finally recalled the two branded cantaloupes from the North American market.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Lawsuit Emerges<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, the parents of an infected&nbsp;13-month old American baby&nbsp;contracted Pritzer Hageman food safety attorneys to litigate. The baby ate cantaloupe at Sam\u2019s Club store and developed diarrhoea and fever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The litigant, Sofia Produce, popular as \u201cTrufresh,\u201d had already recalled its Malichita and Rudy cantaloupes before the litigation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ray Trueblood, the attorney representing the baby\u2019s family said that the food firm did not adhere to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.producebluebook.com\/2023\/12\/06\/food-safety-lawyers-file-first-lawsuit-in-cantaloupe-salmonella-outbreak\/\"><u>basic food safety procedures,<\/u><\/a>\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What to Eat and Not Eat<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FDA updated the list of branded cantaloupe products that are off limit to U.S. consumers on December 7, as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>ALDI\u2019s cut cantaloupe and pineapple spears with expiry dates of between October 27 and 31.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/outbreaks-foodborne-illness\/outbreak-investigation-salmonella-cantaloupes-november-2023\"><u>Cut Fruit Express<\/u><\/a>\u2019 Caribou Coffee Fruit Mix CHPG 6.5 oz under the brand name \u201cFruit Mix,\u201d as they contain cantaloupe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>TGD Cuts LLC\u2019s fresh-cut fruit cup and tray offers, which have cantaloupe ingredients.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Various brands\u2019s fruit products including by Vinyard, KwikTrip, Bix Produce and GHGA. Those by GHGA additionally fall into sales branding of Trader Joe\u2019s and Sprouts Farmers Market.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The above branded products might contain salmonella-infected cantaloupe, hence FDA\u2019s caution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-salmonella\"><strong>What is Salmonella?<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Salmonella is a bacterium that thrives on the gut of the host and often gets ingested through food poisoning. It often causes life-threatening infections in toddlers and elderly people as well as on adults with low disease immunity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The symptoms of salmonella infection are fever, stomach cramps and diarrhoea whose onset is 72 hours after food poisoning.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cantaloupe\"><strong>Cantaloupe<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/117-foods-that-start-with-c\/\"><u>Cantaloupe<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;is a juicy melon with sweet taste. It is a popular treat in summer due to its refreshing quality.
