{"id":19353,"date":"2023-10-13T10:10:47","date_gmt":"2023-10-13T10:10:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/?p=19353"},"modified":"2023-10-13T10:10:50","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T10:10:50","slug":"u-s-corn-output-down-from-september-2023-but-10-up-y-o-y","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2023\/10\/13\/u-s-corn-output-down-from-september-2023-but-10-up-y-o-y\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. corn output down from September, 2023 but 10% up y-o-y"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A week after U.S. corn and soybean\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/news\/2023\/10\/06\/corn-and-soybean-prices-down-as-us-harvest-peaks\/\"><u>prices fell<\/u><\/a>, production statistics reveal that the September harvests are also down.\u00a0The U.S. National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) announced on October 12, 2023 that yields will come shy of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nass.usda.gov\/Newsroom\/2023\/10-12-2023.php\"><u>earlier forecasts.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Corn will lose 1% in yield predictions but gain 10% year-on-year (y-o-y), \u00a0while soybeans will shed yield by 4%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>October 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2023\u00a0forecasts indicate 173 bushels of corn per acre, down from NASS\u2019 earlier projections of 181 bushels.\u00a0In other words, a 1% drop in the projected production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are actual gains however in overall corn production, as the 2023 crop will be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nass.usda.gov\/Newsroom\/2023\/10-12-2023.php\"><u>10%<\/u><\/a>\u00a0more than 2022\u2019s.\u00a0The 2023 output will reach 15.1 billion bushels (383.54 billion kg), above 2022\u2019s 13.59 billion bushels (345.19 billion kg).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The soybean crop is the main loser for it has shrunk by 4% from 2022 both by acreage and production. Statistics for the 2023 harvest reveal that soy fields will only produce 4.10 billion bushels (112.6 million tonnes). \u00a0This is in comparison with 4.26 billion bushels (115.95 million tonnes) from 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A major reason for the poor performance of the soy crop in the 2023 season is depreciation in acreage&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cropwatch.unl.edu\/2023\/usda-forecasts-us-corn-production-soybean-and-cotton-production-down-2022\"><u>by 4%<\/u><\/a>. &nbsp;This year\u2019s reduced acreage &nbsp;stands at 82.8 million, the same area NASS had forecast earlier on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other crops on the same line of lessened production include&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/insights\/prices\/united-states-of-america\/cotton\/\"><u>cotton,<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;whose yield will depreciate by 11% from 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NASS gathered the results via field visits\u00a0to various states representing\u00a075% of the national production of the respective crops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current weakened price outlook of U.S. corn and soybean, too, reflects the production slide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/ussec.org\/\"><u>U.S. soybean<\/u><\/a>\u00a0contracts at the Chicago boarse dipped by at least 0.7% in the first week of October, 2023 to trade at about $12.64 per bushel ($0.46 a kg).
