Good news for the export of the agricultural sector-now it will be possible to export animal by-products to Brazil, including cartilage from scapulae, ears, hooves, esophagus, stomachs, tongues, bladders, tracheas and lungs, bones<\/u><\/a> and skins, ligaments and aponeuroses, pericardium and other membranes. The opening of the Brazilian market for the export of bovine, goat, ovine and porcine by-products is number 10 of those obtained this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was achieved thanks to the joint work of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA), the National Institute of Food and Drug Surveillance (INVIMA) and the livestock sector, who have worked together to ensure the admissibility of these by-products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The admissibility of these non-edible animal by-products represents an excellent opportunity for all small, medium and large livestock producers that benefit from this sector. These by-products are used for industrial, opotherapeutic purposes or as inputs for the pharmaceutical industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order for these products to be admissible in the Brazilian market,<\/u><\/a> Colombia had to comply with Brazil’s sanitary requirements, which include sending the by-products with a sanitary certificate issued by the health authorities of the country of origin. Furthermore, the animals must be born and raised in a rinderpest-free country and in a country or zone free of foot-and-mouth disease with OMSA recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The importance of the admissibility of non-edible by-products of bovine, goat, sheep, and swine origin into Brazil lies in the fact that new market opportunities are opening up for Colombian producers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agricultural exports to Brazil<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Columbia\u2019s Agricultural exports <\/u><\/a>to Brazil exceeded US$1 million in 2022, reflecting the importance and impact of this market and the economic benefits it can bring to Colombian agriculture and the families that depend on the livestock sector. In addition to Brazil, Colombia is also expanding its exports of these products to other markets such as Chile, Paraguay and the European Union. The opening of these new markets represents a great opportunity for Colombian producers to diversify their income and improve their living conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
