But how did the inhabitants manage this? The MDR documentary &#8220;Dorf unter Strom &#8211; Das Selbstversorger-Dorf&#8221; has investigated this question.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mayor Hans-Peter Perschke from Schl\u00f6ben is both a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/insights\/prices\/germany\/milk-cream\/\"><u>dairy farmer <\/u><\/a>and an energy farmer. The manure comes into the biogas plant together with corn silage and solid manure and generates electricity and heat on the farm via a combined heat and power plant (CHP).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;At the beginning of the project, we agreed that we will build the plant so large that we do not have to grow our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/insights\/market\/germany\/maize\/\"><u>German <\/u><u>corn <\/u><\/a>\u00a0in addition. The cultivation area has not changed,&#8221; says the farmer Perschke. Two other CHP plants are located in the village and are connected to the biogas plant by gas pipeline, because there are the main customers for the heat. With the waste heat, the water is made warm for heating and showering.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Schl\u00f6ben has managed the energy transition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around 500 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.selinawamucii.com\/insights\/market\/germany\/live-cattle\/\"><u>cows<\/u><\/a>\u00a0generate so much manure\u00a0that in the end, statistically 7,800 people can be supplied with electricity. Schl\u00f6ben does not even have 1,000 inhabitants. &#8220;Our goal is\u00a0to be\u00a0the bio-energy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.agrarheute.com\/tag\/dorf\">village<\/a>, which has the largest heat use in Germany, perhaps also worldwide. Such a project with such complexity does not exist\u00a0elsewhere in Germany. You can also say that with something like pride,&#8221; says farmer Perschke.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Schl\u00f6ben has\u00a0managed\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.agrarheute.com\/tag\/energiewende\">energy transition<\/a>.
