So, what is Kratom?
Quoting the National Narcotics Agency, Kratom is a plant from Southeast Asia which for hundreds of years has been a part of the culture and life of the indigenous people of Southeast Asia.

This plant grows in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea. Kratom has the Latin name Mitragyna Speciosa. Kratom also has other names in several Southeast Asian countries including ketum, curse, or multiply in Malaysia, kratom, kadam, or ithang in Thailand, purik or ketum in West Kalimantan, kedamba or kedemba in East Kalimantan, and sapat or sepat in Central and South Kalimantan.

In Indonesia, Kratom is an endemic plant that grows in a number of areas in Kalimantan. People have used Kratom for centuries as a natural medicine to treat various health problems. It is these health benefits that make Kratom in Kalimantan widely exported to the United States and European countries. It is not surprising that Kratom is considered a promising export commodity in Kalimantan.

But Kratom users apparently also experience addiction. The effects are felt in the form of feelings of relaxation and comfort, as well as euphoria if kratom is used in high doses. This effect is caused by the mitraginine compound as the main compound contained in Kratom leaves.
