O tym Copra (dried mature coconut)

Copra is the dried, white flesh of the coconut from which coconut oil is extracted1. It’s traditionally sun-dried, especially for export, before the oil, also known as copra oil, is pressed out. The oil extracted from copra is rich in lauric acid, making it an important commodity in the preparation of lauryl alcohol, soaps, fatty acids, cosmetics, etc. The palatable oil cake, known as copra cake, obtained as a residue in the production of copra oil is used in animal feeds.

In the Philippines, copra is often processed using traditional methods including sun-drying and smoke-drying, before being processed into its various products. It’s an important agricultural export for the Philippines.

As for its uses for potential products, copra is mainly used to yield coconut oil. However, the byproducts themselves are used for additional purposes, mostly as food for livestock

The coconut cake produced by making copra is commonly used as livestock food. Copra has high protein content and is used as a primary product in horse feed. It improves the skin texture in horses, conditions the body and improves the shiny coat on the skin of horses. It is used in pig diet to increase the growth rate of the pigs. It is also used as poultry feed to increase growth rates.

Moreover, copra is used for producing butter, oil, baking and cooking, cosmetic products include soaps, body scrubs, hair masks, shampoos, topical creams, etc. Coconut oil is commonly used in baking and cooking4. Coconut oil is a favorite ingredient in beauty products for its moisture and texture. The coconut scent is widely used in products such as candles and soaps.
